Wine Description
Albert Mann's Riesling Grand Cru Schlossberg is one ofAlsace's great white wines. In Kientzheim, this Riesling is grown on the granite terroirs of Grand Cru Schlossberg, a terroir renowned for its mineral fertility and multiple aromatic facets. The 30-year-old vines draw their energy from this pure, straightforward soil. Heir to an ancestral hillside intimately linked to the identity of the grape variety and the Alsace Grand Cru appellation, the cuvée reflects the verticality of the granite soils. Faithful to its in-house practices, the Albert Mann wine estate cultivates these parcels organically and biodynamically. Hand harvesting is the rule, followed by gentle pneumatic pressing, spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel vats and ageing on fine lees.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : The Riesling Grand Cru Schlossberg from the Albert Mann wine estate brilliantly expresses the nobility of Alsatian granite. Behind its straight structure and chiseled acidity lies a rare aromatic generosity that will fully express itself with age. Schlossberg Rieslings are renowned for being full of energy from their youth, but also for their great ageing potential. This already heralds a harmonious evolution, and will eventually reveal all the complexity of one ofAlsace Grand Cru's most mythical terroirs.
On the nose, bright notes of candied citron, bergamot and kumquat set the tone. Abundant scents of white flowers are matched by the mineral finesse of white pepper and flint. The aromatic intensity and balance of this Riesling Grand Cru Schlossberg place it among the very best.
On the palate, the streamlined attack underscores the precision of the acidic structure, stretching the ample, generous body to near-perfect balance. A delicately chalky, almost tannic texture supports the mineral sensation, giving it greater depth and depth. Lemony aromas still betray the cuvée's youth, but the intense salinity of the granite on the finish reveals its great ageing potential, typical of a Schlossberg Riesling.
