Wine Description

Bessin-Tremblay 's Chablis Grand Cru Valmur is one of the most refined and exceptional expressions of the Chablis vineyard. The Valmur climat is one of the seven Grand Crus of Chablis, located in the valley between Les Clos and Vaudésir. This vineyard benefits from optimal sun exposure, combined with a geological composition rich in Kimmeridgian marl and layers of brown to reddish limestone and clay. These unique characteristics enable the grapes to develop incomparable complexity and minerality.

On the upper part of the climat called l'Envers de Valmur, the wine estate cultivates its old Chardonnay vines, the oldest of which were planted in 1947. This two-hectare, single-block plot faces northwest, producing slow, late ripening, while the soils of highly draining brown limestone and Kimmeridgian marl give the wine its characteristic depth and minerality. The Bessin Tremblay wine estate harvests the grapes at perfect ripeness, after months of organic viticulture and biodynamic viticulture. The ensuing winemaking is carried out in stainless-steel vats, using only the grapes' indigenous yeasts. Half of the wine is then matured in used barrels, and the other half in vats, before spending a second winter in vats on fine lees, prior to spring release.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : From the coolest part of the hillside, Bessin-Tremblay 's Chablis Grand Cru Valmur embodies the history of Chablis's ancient marine soils with a nobility all its own. The choice of a prolonged maturation period, shared between barrels and vats, accentuates its depth and complexity in a remarkable way. The Bessin Tremblay wine estate has unquestionably produced one of the finest expressions of this Chablis Grand Cru, designed for at least 15 years of cellaring!

The nose unfurls a complex palette of white flowers, finely iodized sea spray and white fruit, with a promising intensity despite its apparent youth. On aeration, pear and green apple mingle with the freshness of lemon fragrances, while evolving notes of fresh yeast add breadth and depth to the bouquet's tension.

The palate stretches out in fluid motion, carried by vibrant acidity and a particularly silky body. Flavors blossom on notes of reinette apple and juicy pear, with a subtle hint of citron lemon. The intensely saline finish is adorned with a mineral aftertaste and a hint of empyreumatic notes. A hint of fine spices and a touch of butter on the aftertaste. A few years in the cellar and they'll come into their own.
