Wine Description

Domaine Bruno Lorenzon 's Mercurey 1er Cru Les Champs Martin is the wine estate's flagship cuvée, perfectly embodying the essence and nobility of Mercurey's terroirs. Planted on stony clay-limestone soils typical of Burgundy, this Mercurey red draws its identity from 50-year-old vines of Pinot Noir grown under organic viticulture methods on one of the appellation's most renowned slopes, classified as early as 1874. The 1er Cru Les Champs Martin climate offers ideal south-west exposure, giving the Pinot Noir optimum ripeness and concentration. In keeping with Domaine Lorenzon's low-interventionist philosophy, the winemaking of this cuvée is designed to sublimate the terroir and express the uniqueness of the grapes. The grapes are harvested by hand, followed by rigorous sorting, before being pressed with a large proportion of whole-bunch grapes, then fermented with their indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Subsequent ageing lasts 13 months in barrels, of which around 30% are new, before a 6-month maturing period in stainless steel tanks to perfect the balance of the material without masking the superb precision of the fruit.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : The Mercurey 1er Cru Les Champs Martin from Domaine Bruno Lorenzon is a noble wine. Generous, intense and well-balanced, it is a model Mercurey 1er Cru. Its aromatic precision and tannic structure make it a wine that is already seductive in its youth, but with remarkable ageing potential, which will enable it to gain in complexity over a good decade. A flagship cuvée from Domaine Lorenzon, capable of revealing the full nobility of this superb climate.

On the nose, the wine reveals a bewitching bouquet of red and black fruit, combining cherry, blackberry, raspberry and a touch of blackcurrant. Hints of spice, licorice and precious woods come through to the back of the glass, accompanied by hints of vanilla, giving this Mercurey rouge a racy, harmonious profile.

On the palate, the texture is silky and caressing, led by silky, enveloping tannins. The full-bodied body develops deep, ripe fruit flavors, enhanced by a finely spiced, woody structure that gives the wine a superb foundation.
