Catherine Riss' Pinot Noir Empreinte is a real success story, both in terms of the quality of the juice and the ageing process. Made from the best parcels of Reichsfeld sandstone soil, it stands out for its depth of aroma, drinkability and delicate structure. The hilltop location of the vines adds the necessary touch of freshness, whatever the vintage. Catherine Riss is passionate about Pinot Noir, and this really comes through in this cuvée, which shows that Alsace knows how to produce superb red wines capable of rivaling some of Burgundy's finest.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Catherine Riss's Pinot Noir Empreinte is simply magnificent. The signature of her red cuvées is clearly evident: deep, intense color, silky, delicate tannins, and a perfect balance between acidity and substance. A big favorite for the Mundovin team, alongside his other cuvée "T'as pas du Schiste?", which is two notches above.

The nose is very subtle, between undergrowth, floral notes reminiscent of dried rose, and gently smoky spices. Blind tasting, we project ourselves back to Burgundy, to the Côte de Beaune, to appellations such as Volnay.

The palate is a perfect match for the nose, with the lovely Pinots Noirs of Burgundy in evidence. Ageing in Burgundy barrels no doubt helps to bring out this character. A superb wine, as juicy as it is fresh, with clean body and a lingering finish. There's even a hint of minerality, which tends to be rare in a red wine.
