Domaine Chantal Lescure's Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is one of the treasures of Nuits Saint Georges. On the prestigious Montiotes Hautes site, the wine estate's vineyard covers thirty ares, organically cultivated since 2009. Half the vines date back to the 1950s, the other half having been replanted nearly fifteen years ago, in 2011. On typical Burgundy soils composed of clay-limestone pebbles, Pinot Noir finds here one of its finest expressions, which Domaine Chantal Lescure strives to reveal through minimal, low-intervention winemaking. After meticulous hand harvesting to ensure that the grapes don't burst, followed by natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts, the musts are macerated in truncated wooden vats for around three weeks, before ageing on their lees for almost eighteen months in mostly new barrels.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Domaine Chantal Lescure's Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru embodies the perfection we seek in a Burgundy grand cru. Intensity, noble depth, fruit sweetness and balance... To be enjoyed with relish over at least ten years.
On the nose, this Grand Cru has a complex profile, with intense fruity aromas of wild blueberry, blackberry and morello cherry. Spicy aromas of black pepper and licorice add superb depth, while vegetal scents of dried rose, sandalwood and menthol add further refinement.
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and sappy, full of fruity concentration, with elegant hints of spice and herbs and delicious truffle accents. The intensity of the aromas is supported by a perfectly balanced structure, with noble, controlled oak. Mythical!
