Wine Description
Chantal Lescure 's Nuits Saint Georges is a blend of vines from the Argilats and Bousselots parcels in the northernpart of the Nuits Saint Georges appellation. Their character gives a fine, delicate expression that lies halfway between the finesse of a Vosne Romanée and the structure of a Nuits Saint Georges. The soils are clayey for the first forty centimeters, with a large chalky component present at depth.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : 30% of the Nuits Saint Georges cuvée is made from whole-bunch grapes and aged in barrels, 40% of which are new. The vines have been cultivated organically since 2002. The Chantal Lescure wine estate is far removed from the marketing standards and fashions of the region, nurturing its vines and wines in the purest Burgundian tradition.
On the nose, the wine is flattering, with pretty notes of fresh strawberries, black truffles and cloves. This is a wine that needs at least 5 years' ageing to reveal its ageing potential, but it is already showing very well in its youth.
The palate is juicy and greedy, with delicate tannins. We find the verticality typical of Chantal Lescure wine estates, as well as an extraordinary aromatic complexity. A great Nuits Saint Georges Village which is in truth more on the level of a premier cru.
