Wine Description

Domaine Chavy Chouet's Volnay 1er cru Carelle sous La Chapelle is a true benchmark in its field, and one of the very best Volnays in its style: airy and full of finesse. It stands out from the rest thanks to its light, caressing texture. Romaric Chavy has succeeded in giving such a precise definition to this "Volnaysien" terroir, thanks to a great deal of work on the soils and more precise winemaking . A wine that develops a little rusticity in its youth, but after a few years in bottle, it's all lace.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Volnay is a very special appellation in the Côte de Beaune. It lies between Pommard and Meursault, but is not at all made from the same geological vein. Pinot Noir is the king of Volnay. It's perfectly suited to its environment. Indeed, the En Carelle sous La Chapelle terroir, located mid-slope on clay and marl-limestone soils, has won the hearts of many lovers of great Burgundies.

On the nose, the aromatic intensity is truly impressive; this is a Burgundy we'd like to see more of. Elegance and refinement are the two adjectives I would use to define this superb nose.

On the palate, we find the hallmark of the Volnay terroir: lovely substance, ripe tannins, fine structure and aromas that reveal themselves with finesse. A magnificent volnay premier cru that reconciles us with this appellation that is all too often rustic and messy.
