De Montille' s Vosne-Romanée Les Malconsorts "Christiane" is the estate's second parcel in this prestigious appellation. Vinified and bottled separately, it produces a singular cuvée, entitled Christiane in homage to Hubert's wife, mother ofEtienne de Montille, who died in 2008. This fantastic parcel, even more so than its twin, benefits particularly from its immediate proximity to the famous Grand Cru La Tâche, a monopoly of Domaine de la Romanée Conti. Enclosed in the heart of the prestigious La Tâche Grand Cru, it is bordered to the north and west by its original part, offering a rare proximity to one of Burgundy's most mythical terroirs. In this exceptional setting, the vines flourish on one of Burgundy's finest terroirs, composed of very deep brown limestone and clay, giving the wine unrivalled density, depth and fullness.

I find in this wine the key markers of the Malconsorts, fleshed out with superior depth, minerality and complexity. It is one of those wines which, with a little patience, reveal the most refined and accomplished expression of Burgundian pinot noir. A very great 1er cru, which would easily find its place among the Grands Crus of Burgundy.

On the nose, the wine opens with powerful aromas of black fruit, enhanced by magnificent notes of cocoa and black pepper. The power of blackcurrant and spices is matched by a hint of minerality, bringing depth and structure. Sublimated by lightly smoky touches, the whole is strikingly elegant.

The palate is dense, extraordinarily velvety, with tight tannins. The structure is straightforward, mineral, almost serious given the wine's youth. In successive waves, the growing complexity of aromas is served by a rich texture and simply sublime persistence. The ageing potential is also superior.
