Wine Description

Domaine de Villaine 's Rully 1er Cru Les Margotés is a superb expression of Chardonnay on an ideally exposed premier cru terroir. The plot, which is farmed organically, is rather windy and faces south-east. On these light clay-limestone soils, the grapes are left on the vine until they reach optimum ripeness, before being harvested by hand. Delicate winemaking, ageing for 12 to 18 months and then a year's rest in the bottle result in a white wine of great aromatic purity, combining tension, floral finesse and mineral depth.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Domaine de Villaine's Rully 1er Cru Les Margotés is a wine of balance and precision. It shines with freshness and mineral depth. In a lively, racy 2024 vintage, this Chardonnay seduces as much by its precision as by its ability to evolve gracefully. A great premier cru from southern Burgundy, pure, lively and uncompromising, between finesse and depth. Drink within 4 years for greater complexity.

On the nose, the wine opens with aromas of fresh citrus fruit, green apple, white flowers and wet stone, underlined by a discreet touch of buttered toast from ageing already well integrated. The whole is subtle, precise and elegant.

On the palate, the wine is fine, both tender and structured, with precise acidity. The finish is long, taut, almost crystalline, with lingering notes of candied lemon and chalk.
