Wine Description

Domaine de Villaine 'sRully 1er Cru Champs Cloux perfectly illustratesthe finesse and balance of a racy Pinot Noir . On an ideally exposed hillside at the entrance to the village of Rully, the Champs Cloux climat offers an exceptional terroir for the grape variety. Facing due east, this 1er cru rests on deep, predominantly clay-limestone soils, favoring slow, homogeneous ripening of the organically grown grapes . The wine is precise, vibrant and superbly taut.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: With this cuvée, Domaine de Villaine delivers a perfectly mastered interpretation of the elegance of Burgundy terroirs. Carried by a precise balance, this wine reveals a full-bodied Pinot Noir, and is one of the most seductive cuvées of the Côte Chalonnaise. A sign of its great quality, it can already be enjoyed in its youth, after light decanting. But it also offers real ageing potential over 5 to 10 years for patient connoisseurs wishing to reveal all its subtleties.

On the nose, this Rully 1er cru seduces with its aromatic purity: notes of redcurrant, fresh cherry and violet mingle with great freshness. After a little aeration, subtle hints of pepper, nutmeg and black cardamom appear. There's a sense of freshness and undeniable elegance, enhanced by a few floral touches.

The palate combines liveliness and finesse with great precision. The structure is silky, the acidity perfectly controlled, carrying the fruit with energy. Fine tannins blend perfectly with this delicate material. The wine is all the richer for it, with a taut finish that is as fruity as it is mineral. This is a wine of great elegance, leaving an impression of impeccable balance between density and lightness.
