Wine Description

Domaine Desvignes'Morgon Montpelain is a plot-based cuvée of great character, from the eastern part of the Morgon cru, on the outskirts of Lancié. This wine perfectly reflects the typicity of its terroir, offering an assertive structure and remarkable persistence on the palate.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Cuvée Montpelain comes from a small 0.75-hectare parcel where 80-year-old vines flourish on soils combining sand and clay. Situated on an easterly exposure, these vines benefit from an ideal morning sunshine for a progressive and balanced ripening of the grapes.

Hand harvesting guarantees precise selection of bunches at optimum ripeness. Traditional winemaking, with 10% destemming, respects the authenticity of the Gamay noir à jus blanc grape variety and brings out the aromatic richness of the fruit. Controlled vatting, followed by 7 months' ageing in cement vats, preserves the wine's purity and freshness while reinforcing its structure.

The nose opens with a generous bouquet of ripe black fruit, dominated by aromas of wild blackberry, blueberry and blackcurrant. Subtle notes of graphite, gunflint and a delicate touch of black pepper are added, reflecting the mineral expression of its terroir.

On the palate, the attack is frank and juicy, revealing a dense, structured body. Black fruit flavors are accompanied by spicy nuances and a fine minerality. Remarkably fine tannins support a balanced, harmonious structure. The long, persistent finish is marked by invigorating freshness and a silky texture.
