Wine Description

Domaine de l'Aurage 'sPic du Versant was previously known as Versant. This elegant Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux is very approachable from its youth. Like the great L'Aurage cuvée, it is composed mainly of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Its terroir, close to the Saint Emilion appellation, extends over clay-limestone soils. Louis Mitjavile 's aim with this cuvée is to make a juicy, deep, gourmet wine. For lovers of pronounced ageing, the Mitjavile style displays a complex and rather marked woodiness, always of great nobility.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: A new name but no change of style for this cuvée Le Pic du Versant from Domaine de l'Aurage. We remain in line with previous vintages from the wine estate, and we make no secret of the pleasure we derive from tasting this cuvée, vinified in such a way as to be accessible in its youth. The greed and sap of this wine make it one of the best value for money in the Bordeaux region. Be careful, quantities are tiny!

The nose is powerful and intense, with elegant woody notes. The notes of toast, spice and ripe black fruit are superb. Few winemakers can boast of knowing how to balance ageing in this way - it's simply magical.

The palate is a perfect match for the nose, with notes of stewed black fruit and a hint of cinnamon, all wrapped up in very silky tannins. The superb length of the lightly toasted finish leads to noble, complex bitters.
