Wine Description

Henri Gouges ' Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits Les Dames Huguettes was born on a parcel of land nestled on the appellation's high plateau. A major player in Nuits Saint Georges, Domaine Henri Gouges has been involved in the promotion of appellations d'origine since the early 20th century, working towards their recognition in Burgundy. Today, the fourth generation of this family-run wine estate continues the legacy of this essential Côte de Nuits benchmark. The clay-limestone soils, rich in iron oxide , form a shallow, stony substratum that is particularly well-suited to Pinot Noir. The vines are grown according to the precepts of organic viticulture, and the winemaking is carried out by the wine estate with the same ambition and care as for its most prestigious cuvées. After hand harvesting, the grapes are fermented with their own indigenous yeasts, before ageing for 12 to 18 months in French oak barrels.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Domaine Henri gouges ' Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits Les Dames Huguettes embodies the vibrant, invigorating expression of the high plateaus of the southern Côte de Nuits. The natural freshness of the plots gives the wine fresh energy and delicate fruitiness, while fully embodying the liveliness typical of the Hautes Côtes de Nuits.

The nose exudes charming aromas of fresh red fruits, between crushed raspberry and crisp redcurrant, interwoven with lovely powdery touches of peony petals and potpourri. Immediately accessible, this seductive profile reveals further complexity with aeration, between sweet spices and a perfectly mastered woody filigree.

On the palate, the wine reveals a caressing, supple texture. The fine, already well-integrated tannic structure sculpts a fluid texture, while the freshness of the acid framework brings tension and vivacity to the juicy red fruit flavors. The energy that runs through the tasting gives the wine a pleasant spontaneity. The fruity persistence and delicately empyreumatic accents on the finish, between long pepper, licorice and nutmeg, hint at the wine's potential to evolve over several years.
