Wine Description

Among the jewels that have shaped the soul of the Côte de Nuits, Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Saint Georges from Domaine Henri Gouges is undoubtedly the most legendary. Since the Middle Ages, this climat in the southern part of the appellation has distinguished itself by the exceptional quality of its wines. Such was its renown that in 1892, the commune chose to adopt its name. Carefully tended since the origins of the wine estate in the early 20th century, the east-facing plots rest on a Jurassic bedrock of perfectly draining clay-limestone debris, giving the Pinot Noir the energy and luminosity it needs to ripen slowly and optimally. The vines are meticulously tended, with punctual ploughing, adapted pruning and entirely manual harvesting. Winemaking respects the fruit and terroir, with a delicate extraction carried out without input by the indigenous yeasts present on the berries. The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 12 to 18 months to reveal all the racy power of this exceptional terroir.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Domaine Henri Gouges ' Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Saint-Georges sits at the pinnacle of its appellation, matching the greatest red wines of Burgundy in sensual refinement and complexity. A prestige cuvée par excellence, this historic signature of the wine estate is as serious as it is charming. An essential reference in Nuits Saint Georges, its extraordinary richness and balance guarantee exceptional ageing potential for at least two decades.

On the nose, aromas of ripe red fruit burst from the glass with startling intensity, fleshed out from the opening by a splendid earthy structure evoking humus and undergrowth. Aeration releases spicy, mineral notes of licorice, graphite and cardamom, subtly blended with delicate floral touches. Tertiary, gourmand notes of bitter cocoa and black truffle add that extra soul that characterizes the very best.

The palate opens with staggering energy and ripe, vibrant fruit. The velvety texture of fine tannins structures the generous aromas of black fruits, spices and cocoa, whose captivating depth envelops the palate. The aromatic layers blend harmoniously on a breathtakingly taut and fluid finish, punctuated by a spicy aftertaste that is as fresh as it is invigorating, confirming the promise of a formidable evolution in the cellar.
