Wine Description
Domaine Humbert Frères ' Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes is a blend of the estate's oldest vines, spread around the village of Gevrey Chambertin. This mosaic of terroirs benefits from the best cru communal locations, including parcels near l'Estournelles and adjacent to the Grand Cru Griottes-Chambertin. Ageing is a key factor in the wine's identity: it lasts around 16 to 18 months in Burgundian oak barrels, with a measured proportion of new barrels, to bring complexity without masking the fruit. Brothers Frédéric and Emmanuel Humbert are renowned for their meticulous work, producing wines that combine the characteristic power of Gevrey Chambertin with remarkable textural finesse.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Domaine Humbert Frères ' Gevrey Chambertin Vieilles Vignes embodies the very best of Burgundy 's village appellation. The expression of terroir is magnified by the concentration of old vines, which brings incomparable delicacy and silkiness. A Côte de Nuits must-have for Pinot Noir lovers in search of purity and structure!
The nose is rich, complex and greedy, opening with intense aromas of ripe black fruit (blackberry, blackcurrant, black cherry) and roasted red fruit, typical of a concentrated Pinot Noir. Over time, the bouquet evolves towards hints of undergrowth, truffles and musk, as well as a floral violet note characteristic of Gevrey-Chambertin, testifying to its excellent potential.
The attack on the palate is powerful, straightforward and well-structured, with remarkable density from the outset. The tannins are silky and enveloping, providing both hold and a velvety texture. The wine is well-balanced by fresh acidity that tautens the material and lengthens the whole. The finish is harmonious, refined and persistent, with a return of black fruit flavors.
