Wine Description
Domaine Moreau-Naudet 's Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre is born on one of Chablis' most renowned climates. Situated on stony Kimmeridgian limestone and marl soils, Montée de Tonnerre produces wines of racy intensity and great precision. The fifty-year-old Chardonnay vines are tended by Domaine Moreau Naudet in a respectful culture: ploughing of the soils, absence of weedkillers and chemical fertilizers, and hand harvesting followed by rigorous sorting. Natural fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats, followed by ageing in vats and barrels over 24 months to refine the texture and reveal the tension specific to this Chablis Premier Cru climate, emblematic of Burgundy.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : This Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre from Domaine Moreau Naudet impresses with its balance. The perfectly controlled ripeness is supported by a straightforward mineral framework with a rare osmosis. A limpid reading of the terroir, with a fine balance between precision and depth.
On the nose, the cru's apparent youth does not detract from its formidable aromatic depth, with notes of candied lemon, white fruit and gunflint. Aeration reveals a subtle floral touch that accentuates the chiselled dimension of the bouquet. A few hints of dried fruit suggest ageing potential of at least ten years. The whole breathes freshness and minerality, between tension and elegance.
On the palate, Montée de Tonnerre surprises with its volume and fluidity. The wine stretches out unctuously, revealing flavors of fresh apple and pear, sweet almond and damp chalk. The fine acidity and salivating noble bitters on the finish evoke Domaine Moreau Naudet 's mastery of maturation and ageing on this Chablis Premier Cru.
