Wine Description

Domaine Moreau-Naudet 's Chablis 1er Cru Montmains originates on the left bank of the Serein, in the heart of Burgundy, on the clay-limestone terroir of the Montmains climat. The Domaine Moreau Naudet plots are located in Vaux-Miolot and Butteaux, on soils rich in marine fossils and oyster shells. Their south-western exposure favors even ripening of the Chardonnay berries, while preserving the mineral tension typical of Chablis. The wine estate perpetuates the viticultural principles introduced by Stéphane Moreau in the 1990s: the vines are treated without weedkillers or chemical fertilizers, with total tillage of the soil and careful hand harvesting. Fermentation takes place exclusively with indigenous yeasts, and ageing is particularly long for the region. After 24 months in vats, barrels and demi-muids, the wine reveals all the purity of Chablis Premier Cru terroirs, with the spontaneity typical of the Montmains climate.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : This Chablis 1er Cru Montmains from Domaine Moreau Naudet is undoubtedly the most accessible when young. It has a characteristic balance between slender mouthfeel, generous body and vibrant minerality. Its deeper soils give it a delicious fullness that will age for a decade or so, and put everyone in agreement in the meantime!

The nose opens with generous white flowers and ripe fruit, evoking pear, tangerine and mango. The vintage's youthfulness in no way detracts from the bouquet's appealing character, which reveals tertiary notes of sweet almond and fresh butter on aeration. Fine chalky accents typical of Kimmeridgian soils add freshness.

On the palate, Moreau Naudet 's Chablis Premier Cru Montmains is full-bodied and well-balanced, with initial unctuosity giving way to vibrant, charming acidity. Ripe flavors mingle gracefully with the mineral persistence of the finish, whose chalky freshness marks the palate with a long salivation.
