Magnum Chénas Chassignol 2023 Thillardon | Beaujolais

Domaine Thillardon's Chénas Chassignol comes from the estate's most prestigious parcel, on a sloping hillside with granite and quartz terroir. The 110-year-old vines are cultivated with great care, often using draught horses to preserve biodiversity and limit environmental impact. The outcropping of granite and quartz gives the wine a unique minerality, typical of the Chassignol terroir.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Chénas Chassignol is a particularly refined wine that perfectly balances power and finesse. The influence of granite and quartz can be felt in the great minerality, while the wine retains remarkable freshness and fruitiness. Ageing takes place in vats and barrels without the use of new wood to preserve the integrity of the terroir and avoid overpowering the wine's natural aromas. No sulfur is added throughout the process, and the wine is bottled unfiltered, in keeping with the wine estate's biodynamic philosophy.

The nose displays an elegant intensity, with aromas of fresh red fruits such as cherry, raspberry and blackberry, combined with a delicate spicy touch of white pepper. The granitic terroir reveals subtle mineral notes of gunflint, mingling with delicate floral aromas of violet and peony.

The palate is distinguished by a silky texture and impressive finesse. The attack is lively and fresh, followed by crisp red fruit. The tannins, well present and of great finesse, provide elegant structure and a lovely grain. The finish is long, salivating and mineral, testifying to Chassignol's excellent terroir.
