Pouilly-Fuissé "Clos du Roy" 2021 Dominique Cornin | Burgundy

Pouilly Fuissé Clos du Roy, formerly Clos Reyssié , is one of the finest Pouilly Fuissé climats. It's a historic parcel in the commune of Chaintré , where vines were already planted in the 3rd century AD. At that time, Chaintré was a small Gallo-Roman town called Catriacia. This Clos is situated on hillsides with clay-limestone terroirs facing south-east. Domaine Dominique Cornin is fortunate to have planted vines on this Clos since 1936.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Le Clos du Roy is an exceptional Pouilly Fuissé. Particular care has been taken in ageing it. First, it spent a year in Burgundy barrels, with very little stirring , to retain maximum freshness and authenticity. It was then aged for a further 6 months to refine and balance the wine. This Pouilly Fuissé reveals its natural power and generous character. It offers many possibilities for pairing, especially with white meats and poultry.

On the nose, aromas of quince jam, peach in syrup, verbena, a touch of amaretto and acacia are easily expressed on opening. But with a little extra time in bottle, more saline, iodine and floral notes can be discovered.

The palate is full-bodied, with a seductive attack. We quickly understand the potential of this wine, which is at once invigorating, energetic and round. The balance between terroir and winemaker's touch approaches Pouilly Fuissé perfection.
