Wine Description

Domaine Élodie Roy 's Maranges La Rue des Pierres captures the essence of a little-known terroir in the southern Côte de Beaune. Here, at an altitude of around 300 meters, the characteristic clay-limestone soil of Maranges lends tension and elegance to the Pinot Noir, while the southern exposure favors even berry ripening and optimal aromatic concentration. The fifty-year-old vines are carefully tended by Elodie Roy, who works the soil without using weedkillers, maintains permanent grass cover to stimulate biodiversity, and intervenes manually on the branches to optimize the light and aeration of the bunches. Once harvested, the grapes are de-stemmed, vinified with their indigenous yeasts in concrete vats, then aged in non-new oak barrels for 13 months, to bring structure and depth without masking the fruit.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Domaine Élodie Roy 's Maranges La Rue des Pierres immediately reveals its identity, between greedy fruitiness and the mineral tension typical of the Côte de Beaune. This petit cru, from a parcel carefully tended by Elodie Roy, manages to combine suppleness and structure in a wine that is pleasant to drink now and will gain in complexity with age. In my opinion, this wine is a perfect example of how the terroirs of Maranges, often modest in size, can produce precise, expressive Burgundy wines. This Maranges displays a finesse worthy of superb Chambolle Musigny!

The nose opens with an expressive, elegant bouquet. Aromas of tangy red fruits and ripe black fruits burst forth with intensity, while remaining fresh and precise. Hints of cocoa and black pepper enrich this deep, aromatic palette.

The attack on the palate is supple and immediately engaging, supported by fine, silky tannins that structure the wine with fluidity. Flavors of red and black fruit mingle with spicier nuances of pepper and licorice. The finish unfolds subtle accents of bitter cocoa and smoke that pleasantly prolong the tasting experience. The freshness and finesse of this Maranges place it among the remarkable discoveries of the Côte de Beaune.
