Wine Description
Graeme and Julie Bott's Côte-Rôtie Lieu-dit Lancement is a particularly rare expression of this emblematic Côte Blonde parcel within the prestigious Côte Rôtie appellation. Known for its steep terraces and ideal exposure, Lancement enjoys one of the most favorable microclimates in Côte Rôtie. The subsoil is made up of hard granite, typical of the Côte Blonde, where the young Syrah vines plunge their roots deep down, giving this cuvée exceptional finesse and aromatic complexity. This plot is particularly difficult to work because of its steep slopes, and is meticulously tended exclusively by hand.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Domaine Bott's Côte-Rôtie Lieu-dit Lancement is a pure gem of the northern Rhône Valley. Graeme and Julie Bott have chosen to release it in magnums only, a sign of its rarity, due to both very low yields and particularly meticulous winemaking. After ageing for some twenty months in barrel, the wine benefits from a further year's rest in bottle, allowing it to gain in structure and depth. Already magnificent in its youth, this cuvée will be revealed in all its splendor after a few years in the cellar.
On the nose, a complex bouquet unfolds, combining the floral finesse of violets with more powerful aromas of black cherry, candied blackberry and wild berries. Spicy scents of black pepper, clove and a hint of sandalwood emerge as the wine opens, giving the whole a bewitching depth.
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, with a structured power that supports its velvety texture. The tannins blend with remarkable finesse into this satiny, almost ethereal texture, where complex layers of ripe black fruit, licorice, black pepper and smoky wood mingle. Perfectly controlled acidity balances the whole, with almost sanguine accents all the way through to the finish, where a salty, sappy quality promises this great Rhône Valley wine to age masterfully.
