Wine Description
Domaine Henri et Gilles Buisson's Volnay Les Chanlins is a true benchmark and certainly one of the finest Volnays to be found in Burgundy. It stands out from the rest thanks to its ageing potential. The Buisson family has succeeded in defining the terroirs of the Volnay Les Chanlins appellation so precisely, thanks to extensive soil work and more precise winemaking. A wine that develops a little rusticity in its youth, but after a few years in bottle, it's a much more lacy wine that can be discovered.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Volnay Les Chanlins is a very special Côte de Beaune parcel. The wine estate's parcel of 30-year-old vines, situated at an altitude of 300 meters in the Premier Crus, draws its essence from the most "virile" part of the appellation. Its proximity to Pommard, its neighboring appellation, means that it benefits from a similar soil, highly concentrated in iron oxide, in addition to a parent rock specific to Volnay.
On the nose, Pinot Noir really comes to the fore, with notes of slightly acid red fruit. The aromatic intensity is truly impressive, a Burgundy the likes of which we wish we had more of. Elegance and refinement are the two adjectives I would use to define this superb nose.
On the palate, we find the hallmark of Volnay's terroir, with lovely substance, ripe tannins, a fine structure and aromas that reveal themselves with finesse. A magnificent Volnay wine that reconciles us with an appellation that is all too often rustic and messy.
