Wine Description

Jean Foillard 's Beaujolais Blanc is the first white cuvée from this iconic Beaujolais winemaker. On a Chardonnay plot of just over one hectare in the Pizay area near Morgon, the 15-year-old vines are rooted in the granitic soils typical of the Beaujolais region. Cared for using organic methods, the grapes concentrate all the freshness and tension of this granite terroir to produce a fine, expressive wine. Faithful to its approach to natural wine, the Jean Foillard wine estate practices winemaking without the addition of sulfur. Winemaking begins with three days of whole-cluster cold maceration, followed by gentle pressing. Fermentation then takes place partly in concrete vats, partly in old stoneware barrels and jars, before final blending. This plurality of bottle sizes serves to balance fruit purity, mineral tension and mouthfeel.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Jean Foillard 's first cuvée of white Beaujolais was eagerly awaited, and rightly so! This great winemaker has produced a natural white wine of the highest quality, concentrating all the typicity of the granite soils around Morgon. Available in just 12,000 bottles, this white Beaujolais from Domaine Jean Foillard is a true rarity in a terroir largely dominated by reds.

The nose is immediately luminous, exhaling white flowers, green apple and ripe pear. A discreet flinty minerality adds a seductive freshness.

On the palate, the soft, velvety texture is adorned with a remarkable acidity that stretches the material with great elegance. The ripeness of the vintage is evident in the aromas of juicy white fruit, ripe citrus and white flowers, but the roborative minerality of the terroir lends a refined balance to the whole, avoiding any heaviness. The saline, straightforward finish imbues the palate with a fresh, mineral vibrancy.
