Wine Description

Côte Rôtie Coteaux de Tupin from the Jean Michel Stéphan wine estate is made from terraced vines on predominantly granitic and gneiss terroirs. These soils are typical of the southern Côte Rôtie appellation. They give the wine its racy, complex character, but also its great purity. The slopes are steep and yields are very low, around 15 hectoliters per hectare.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Côte Rôtie Coteaux de Tupin is certainly the finest Côte Rôtie de garde in its style. Jean Michel Stéphan vinifies all his wines with carbonic maceration, and keeps this cuvée Tupin for 24 months in barrels without adding sulfur during the winemaking process. The result is a wine with a magnificent fruity mouthfeel, rare complexity and phenomenal aromatic persistence.

On the nose, the wine opens with hints of tangy red fruit and white pepper. There's an animal touch, typical of Syrah on this terroir. This is a wine that doesn't express itself much when young, but which will be grandiose after 10 to 15 years.

Very fine, silky texture on the palate. The tannins are fresh and give this Côte Rôtie a remarkable straightforwardness. Notes of blackcurrant and minerality dominate the wine, which will gain in complexity with age. A great wine in the making.
