Wine Description

Côte Rôtie Les Binardes from the Jean Michel Stephan wine estate is made from magnificent plots of land on the Côte Blonde, mainly on granite terraces. This wine has the particularity of having 10% Viognier in the blend, the rest being made up of Syrah known as "classique" and Sereine, a very old variety of Syrah, certainly the origin of this grape variety.

No chemical treatments or weeding have been carried out for many years.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Jean Michel Stephan is often referred to as the UFO of Côte Rôtie , because he has a very singular vision of his terroir and the way he vinifies his wines. In particular, he starts with short carbonic maceration in whole bunches and long ageing without added sulfur. The result is simply sublime! When you see how complicated it is to make a stable, emotional wine without sulfur in this sector.

On the nose, the wine develops bright red fruit notes mixed with hints of pink berries. Hints of timut pepper and a slight vegetal touch add a great deal of freshness.

The palate is straightforward on the attack, then reveals a refined, elegant body and a very tasty fruitiness. A style that is the opposite of what is generally found in the Côte Rôtie appellation. The finish is mineral and sapid. A superb interpretation of this magnificent terroir.
