Wine Description

Syrah from the Jean Michel Stephan wine estate is a vin de France cuvée produced close to the famous Côte Rôtie terroirs. This wine is produced without any inputs and with the aim of being enjoyed from the very first years of its life. Indeed, Jean Michel uses carbonic maceration for this wine in order to enhance its freshness . Extraction is very gentle, more like an infusion without punching down.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Stephan's pure Syrah is a superb natural Rhône Valley wine and one of my favorites in the Côte Rôtie area. It's a spontaneous wine of great complexity. It combines the finesse of its terroir with the delicacy of Jean Michel Stephan's winemaking.

On the nose, the wine opens with notes of ripe strawberries and white pepper. There's also a hint of pink berries and a wonderful touch of "pot pourri". This wine expresses itself even better after 2 hours' decanting.

The palate is extremely fine, with silky tannins. You can feel Jean Michel Stephan's determination to make a wine that is both digestible, gourmet and complex. The perfect execution of a natural Rhône Valley wine , a sure bet.
