Wine Description

Cuvée Manganite is one of the most remarkable expressions of the Mâcon Cruzille appellation, created by Julien Guillot of the Clos des Vignes du Maynes wine estate. Made exclusively from small-grained Gamay grapes, this cuvée offers exceptional depth and finesse, easily rivaling the region's finest wines. Winemaking follows a minimalist approach: cold pre-fermentation in truncated wooden vats, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, with no addition of sulfur, enzymes or chaptalization. Ageing, on fine lees for 11 months, takes place in used barrels. Bottling is carried out without fining, filtration or addition of sulfites.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: The grapes come from vines planted in 1953, on a 2-hectare plot within the historic 6-hectare Clos, cultivated since the 9th century by the monks of the Abbaye de Cluny. The terroir lies on shallow (5 to 50 cm) clay-limestone soils, composed of Bathonian limestone rich in calcite and aragonite crystals. These unique characteristics give the wine an intense minerality and a signature of rare elegance.

On the nose, a complex, bewitching bouquet unfolds with aromas of red berries such as raspberry and redcurrant mingled with delicate floral notes of rose and peony. In the background, a chalky minerality and light spicy touches underline the aromatic depth.

On the palate, the texture is silky and delicate to the touch, revealing a perfect balance between freshness and roundness. Crisp red fruits are accompanied by subtle hints of undergrowth and a touch of licorice. Minerality, the signature of the terroir, brings a saline dimension and great vivacity.
