Wine Description

The Les Vignes Oubliées wine estate was created by Jean Baptiste Granier, a former agricultural engineer who began his project with the help of Olivier Jullien of the Mas Jullien estate, a benchmark in the Languedoc region. It all started with a simple idea. To preserve very old vines in the commune of Saint Privat that were destined to disappear for economic reasons. It began in 2007, and its first vintage is already setting the tone. His Terrasses du Larzac wines, both red and white, are carefully crafted and expressive.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: My first encounter with this wine was very promising. I immediately knew we were dealing with a passionate winemaker. He wants to preserve his heritage and make local wines from it. A truly wonderful discovery that made me want to go further and discover his other cuvées like this. They're really good, authentic wines, just the way I like them.

On the nose, you can tell this is a wine bursting with sunshine, it's powerful. You can smell the garrigue, the spices, the aromatic herbs, it's top-notch! Ageing is a little marked on the nose when young. It quickly fades after one or two years of cellaring or decanting.

On the palate, it's suave, greedy and with a beautiful aromatic intensity. The wine is full of fruit, and the winemaker is looking for greed and complexity. Notes of licorice blend perfectly with hints of cinnamon, thyme and oregano. I think this wine is an achievement for such a young winemaker. The Les Vignes Oubliées wine estate is one to watch closely.
