Wine Description

Marc Kreydenweiss’s Kritt Gewürztraminer is a semi-dry Gewürztraminer that emphasizes balance, combining the intensity of the terroir with a delicate texture. Grown on the hillsides of Eichhoffen, at the mouth of the Andlau Valley, this cuvée originates from stony soil particularly rich in quartz and iron-rich clay, whose unique geological composition shapes its spicy and mineral character. The wine estate, managed using biodynamic methods, relies on the vitality of this terroir to allow the vines to root deeply and channel all of its energy into the grapes. This approach gives the Kritt Gewurztraminer a character quite distinct from the more exotic or sweet styles often associated with the grape variety.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Marc Kreydenweiss’s Kritt Gewurztraminer takes root in the iron-rich soil of this Eichhoffen plot, which gives it a lively and spicy character, setting it apart from opulent Gewurztraminers. This cuvée embodies the precision of the biodynamic work carried out by Antoine Kreydenweiss, who is able to impart to the wine the energy and minerality unique to this singular soil.

The nose is complex, initially marked by spicy notes of green pepper and fine leather, before giving way to floral nuances of dried rose. Aromas of ripe fruit, ranging from pear to apricot, then enrich this bouquet, extended by a hint of citrus that brings a welcome freshness to the whole.

On the palate, the wine is both supple and concentrated, driven by flavors of yellow fruit and fruit paste. The terroir’s minerality provides structure to the wine and leads to a salty, taut finish that counterbalances the fruit’s natural richness, resulting in a tasting experience that is as generous as it is refreshing.
