Wine Description

Long absent from the cuvées of the Morey-Coffinet wine estate, the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Fairendes cuvée makes a dazzling comeback after several years of patience. Replanted after 2015, this half-hectare parcel, located north of Les Morgeots, below the Grandes Ruchottes and Grande Montagne climats, now benefits from deep rooting, giving the wine intense minerality and refined aromatic expression.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Thanks to demanding organic and biodynamic viticulture and Poussard pruning, which preserves the flow of sap and favors the vine's natural balance, this limestone terroir punctuated by marl banks reveals all its vibrant, racy identity. Ageing lasts around 12 months in oak barrels, of which 25-30% is new wood, followed by a few months' maturing in vats to harmonize the wine. This precise ageing, without excess, preserves the wine's finesse and tension, while giving it depth and a silky texture.

On the nose, a bewitching floral swirl is immediately apparent: one imagines entering a florist's after a light rain, where violets, frésia, lily of the valley, jasmine and lily mingle with citrus and apple blossoms. This delicate freshness gradually gives way to pure, greedy fruit, marked by poached pear, white peach, candied yellow lemon and subtle exotic accents. In the background, delicate, stimulating spices structure this complex bouquet: bergamot essence, white pepper, Sichuan berries, cloves and lemongrass.

The palate is streamlined and dynamic, both silky and vibrant. A saline, mineral framework immediately sets the tone, while ripe fruit (Reinette apple, blood orange, Amalfi lemon, star fruit) expresses itself brilliantly. The energy of spices enlivens the tasting: invigorating ginger, licorice, Espelette pepper and a touch of aniseed. The whole is magnificently supported by subtle oak.
