Wine Description

With his Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Houillères, Thibault Morey has created a wine with an assertive identity, where elegance is combined with deep minerality and vibrant tension. Located to the north of Chassagne, on the border with Puligny-Montrachet, this exceptional terroir rests on shallow limestone soil, combining clay and traces of coal, which give it a unique expression, at once saline, smoky and iodized.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Made from old vines planted in the 1950s, this wine is cultivated according to organic and biodynamic principles, ensuring a perfect osmosis between the plant and its terroir. After a year's ageing in barrels and demi-muids (less than a third new wood), it asserts itself as a Chassagne d'altitude, taut, energetic and remarkably precise.

On the nose, the first impression is of striking freshness, evoking a sea breeze blowing over damp rocks and aquatic mosses. Airy, vegetal notes recall water lilies, wild mint and lemongrass, while fruit comes to the fore with crisp Boskoop apple, Crassane pear and lime.

On the palate, the structure is streamlined and energetic, carried by vibrant salinity and impressive tension. The ample, chiseled body releases aromas of juicy Comice pear, preserved lemon, kumquat and pink grapefruit, supported by intense minerality and refreshing acidity. Perfectly integrated ageing confers a silky texture, while preserving the wine's purity and verticality.
