Wine Description

Nicole Lamarche 's Côtes de Nuits Villages rouge is part of the historic Côte de Nuits area. This village appellation, one of the emblematic foundations of Burgundy's great red wines, rests on clay-limestone soils conducive to a fine, structured expression of Pinot Noir. For this cuvée, Domaine Lamarche has opted for low yields to achieve greater concentration. Careful attention to ripeness, hand harvesting and almost total de-stemming precede a 15-18 day maceration in open vats and fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Prolonged ageing in mostly new oak barrels refines the highly accomplished expression of this Côte de Nuits Pinot Noir.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : This Côtes de Nuits Villages from Domaine Lamarche embodies the very best of an often underestimated appellation. The wine is distinguished by a remarkable overall finesse, whose purity of fruit and supple structure are reminiscent of Nicole Lamarche's attention to the great terroirs. This Côte de Nuits villages rouge is one of the appellation's most accomplished, thanks in particular to its potential to evolve into a cru communal.

On the nose, juicy red and black fruit aromas are complemented by hints of noble spices. Fragrances reminiscent of leather and a hint of wood add an appetizing tertiary dimension to the ripeness of the bouquet.

On the palate, the supple, fluid texture of this Côtes de Nuits Village red is enlivened by a fine framework of delicately perceptible chalky tannins. The frankness of red and black fruits is enhanced by sensual, fresh length. The persistence of spicy flavors on the finish endows the wine with beautiful length, whose elegance and harmony will hold up for a decade of cellaring without faltering.
