Wine Description

Domaine Ostertag's Riesling Clos Mathis is a parcel belonging to Hubert Mathis, who was the wine estate's vineyard manager for 20 years. This small parcel of 60 ares occupies a privileged position as it lies in the direct extension of Ribeauvillé's Geisberg and Kirchberg grands crus. The terroir is steep, terraced and composed of low-fertility gneiss and granite, naturally limiting yields.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : André Ostertag took over the cultivation of this exceptional terroir in 1997. He has directly adopted biodynamic viticultural methods and is gradually restoring the vineyard's lost identity. After more than 25 years, Clos Mathis has established itself as one of Alsace's finest Rieslings.

On the nose, the wine opens with notes of tenderly stewed apples, with hints of chestnut, kumquat and grapefruit. A light touch of chlorophyll also adds freshness to the nose.

The palate is generous, bursting with fruit and energy. It's bursting with fruity flavors such as apricot, lemon and blood orange. We also like the subtle spicy, sappy notes that add dynamism to the whole. The finish is remarkable for its structure and straightforwardness, and never ceases to excite the taste buds.
