Wine Description

In the Côte de Nuits, amidst the legendary crus for which Burgundy is renowned, Domaine Georges Roumier 's Chambolle-Musigny is one of those communal cuvées that go far beyond the confines of their appellation. Nestled between the village's Grands Crus, the Domaine's parcels are planted on the clay-limestone soils typical of the appellation. The east-facing aspect and hilltop altitude produce a fabulous Pinot Noir, which is meticulously cared for right up to harvesting, thanks to organic treatments and moderate yields. After hand-picking and rigorous sorting, almost 90% of the grapes are destemmed before being placed in vats for natural fermentation using indigenous yeasts. Ageing lasts 14 months in experienced oak barrels, with a limited proportion of new wood, before bottling without fining or filtration. Georges Roumier 's Chambolle Musigny reflects the village style of one of the Côte de Nuits' most renowned wine estates.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Domaine Georges Roumier 's Chambolle-Musigny stands out for the purity and finesse of its fabulous Pinot Noir. It may be classified as a cru communal, but this is a true aesthete's wine in the noblest sense of the word: the purity of fruit and unique texture, all lacy and vibrant, are typical of the Roumier style. Its accessibility from youth and its ageing potential of a good fifteen years complete the picture.

The nose is a veritable explosion of finesse and purity. It opens with a bewitching bouquet of red berries, from burlat cherry to redcurrant and wild strawberry. The singular signature of Chambolle Musigny is apparent from the first floral, springtime fragrances of violet and peony. Aeration brings precision to the delicate tertiary fragrances, between white pepper and dried flowers, without any woody artifice.

On the palate, the wine is delicate and well-balanced, deliciously dapper. Tannins caress the palate with a satiny texture that enhances the flavors of red berries and fresh spices. Airy notes of black tea and potpourri stretch through the graceful finish, which maintains the natural balance of this great Chambolle Musigny for a long time to come.
