Wine Description
Sylvain Pataille 's Bourgogne Aligoté La Charme Aux Prêtres stands out as one of the wine estate's most exclusive cuvées. In Marsannay, this south/southwest-facing parcel at an altitude of nearly 300 meters rests on Comblanchien limestone and Ostrea marl, which give this cuvée its characteristic minerality. TheAligoté vines, planted in 1949, benefit from careful biodynamic viticulture, coupled with very limited yields to concentrate quality in each berry. Ageing takes place in old barrels over 12 to 18 months to preserve the pure expression of the grape variety while revealing every subtlety of the terroir. Over the years, the Sylvain Pataille wine estate has succeeded in enhancing this cuvée with the precision and finesse for which it is renowned, and which could soon earn this parcel a 1er Cru classification!
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Sylvain Pataille 's Bourgogne Aligoté La Charme Aux Prêtres is one of the finest expressions ofAligoté in Côte de Nuits, with rare bottles particularly prized by discerning Burgundy connoisseurs. Its intense minerality and natural tension offer a wine capable of gaining in complexity with a few years' cellaring. A magnificent illustration of Sylvain Pataille wine estate expertise !
The nose is captivatingly pure: fruity notes of apple and ripe pear, typical of Aligoté, are captured by the mineral depth of Comblanchien limestone. The minerality of the terroir unfolds with aeration, with a slightly smoky touch, evoking warm stones and chalk.
On the palate, the lively, precise attack immediately establishes the saline tension and finesse of the limestone. Between fresh pear, lemon citron and damp chalk, the wine gains in fullness on a slightly oily texture that balances the mineral tension. The finish displays a remarkably long, iodized salinity, where the power of the terroir dialogues with the elegance of the fruit. Every sip confirms the exceptional character of this true Sylvain Pataille wine estate gem.
