Wine Description

Sylvain Pataille 's Bourgogne blanc Pinot Beurot embodies one of the most singular expressions of Burgundy's winegrowing heritage. From a tiny parcel in Couchey, just outside Marsannay, this rare wine pays tribute to a forgotten grape variety: Pinot Beurot, the Burgundian name for Pinot Gris. Planted in 1929, these old vines are rooted in deep clay-limestone soil, from which they draw fleshy substance and elegant tension. True to its philosophy, the Sylvain Pataille wine estate cultivates these vines according to biodynamic principles, harvesting by hand and allowing fermentation to proceed naturally with the indigenous yeasts present on the berries. A long ageing period of 12 to 18 months in old barrels perfects the aromatic expression of this old-fashioned grape variety, producing a white wine that is pure, textured and profoundly Burgundian.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Sylvain Pataille 's Bourgogne blanc Pinot Beurot is at the crossroads of the wine estate's style and the memory of Burgundy's historic grape varieties. It impresses with its depth and complexity, which the Sylvain Pataille wine estate succeeds in magnifying with great precision. An exclusive cuvée that will delight more than one Burgundy lover!

On the nose, the aromatic palette unfolds with elegance, opening with notes of ripe pear, quince and white flowers, followed by pretty scents of citrus peel and sweet spices. A subtle minerality refines the whole, giving the wine an airy dimension. The overall impression is of a refined, nuanced bouquet in constant evolution.

On the palate, Pinot Beurot is full-bodied and unctuous, balanced by fine, long-lasting acidity. The fruit expresses itself with just the right ripeness on aromas of white peach, candied lemon zest, acacia flower and fresh butter. The balance between density of substance and mineral tension marks a wine of rare precision, where every detail seems weighed and mastered, without however falling into an excess of technicality. The finish lingers with a beautiful minerality, on slightly spicy notes typical of the grape variety.
