Wine Description

Sylvain Pataille 's Bourgogne rouge sums up the spirit of this great winemaker from Marsannay: precision, purity and absolute respect for the terroirs of the Côte de Nuits. Made from old Pinot Noir vines, this wine explores the geological diversity of the clay-limestone and marl soils. From this mosaic of climates, the Sylvain Pataille wine estate is able to extract the perfect balance between aromatic depth and fruity energy. The vines are tended according to biodynamic practices, and grapes picked at optimum ripeness are fermented with their indigenous yeasts. Prolonged ageing in old barrels for at least 12 months refines the wine's texture without masking the expression of Marsannay's terroirs. True to his philosophy, the winemaker has created an exemplary entry-level wine, whose regional appellation easily equals some village appellation wines!

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Sylvain Pataille 's Bourgogne rouge is much more than an introduction to the house style, it's a signature in its own right. Behind the often modest profile of this appellation lies a rare depth and precision. Domaine Sylvain Pataille reveals its mastery of ageing in this pure, chiselled Pinot Noir. A truly soulful wine!

On the nose, the wine opens brightly with aromas of wild strawberry, crisp cherry and juicy wild berry, underlined by floral notes of violet and peony. A subtle touch of sweet spices reminiscent of cinnamon and gray pepper adds depth and complexity.

On the palate, the wine impresses with its silky texture and chiseled energy. Red and black fruits flow in brilliantly, carried by a fine tannic framework that structures a velvety body. The chalky minerality enhanced by ageing strikes a perfect balance between intensity and grace, while the finish lingers with great elegance.
