Wine Description
Sylvain Pataille 's Marsannay En Clémengeots reveals the caressing elegance of this little-known Côte de Nuits appellation. On the heights of Marsannay, at around 280 meters above sea level, the lieu-dit En Clémengeots is an enclave in the middle of the prestigious 1er Cru Champ Salomon climat. Renowned for its high quality, this small parcel planted as early as 1951 on clay soil punctuated by stretches of limestone expresses the finesse of Burgundy Pinot Noir at its most ethereal. True to the winemaker's philosophy, the vines are tended according to biodynamic principles, the grapes are harvested by hand, fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged for 18 months in barrels to preserve the purity of the fruit. The Sylvain Pataille wine estate has created an exclusive Marsannay red cuvée, whose refinement equals some of the most renowned expressions of the Côte de Nuits.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Sylvain Pataille 's Marsannay En Clémengeots perfectly expresses the singular grace of this climate, whose potential as a 1er Cru is undeniable. More accessible in its youth than other expressions from the wine estate, it offers a charming, luminous face of red Marsannay. However, its capacity to evolve in the cellar makes it an excellent candidate for tasting over the next ten years! Its satiny texture and aromatic precision are a reminder of the extent to which Domaine Sylvain Pataille has elevated this appellation to the rank of Burgundy's great signatures.
The nose reveals a palette of rare delicacy. Candied raspberry and violet dominate, mingling with the juicy framework of ripe black fruit. Sweet spices and a hint of clove add extra depth and warmth. The impression of grace and the intensity of the aromas suggest a fine potential for complexity over the coming years.
On the palate, this Marsannay rouge unfurls a smooth, almost tactile texture. Exemplary tannin finesse coats the silky body, allowing the ripe black fruit to blossom. Aromas of violet and peony mingle with the complexity of sweet spices reminiscent of pepper and clove. The chalky structure of the terroir lends remarkable energy and balance to the whole, prolonging the tasting experience with a delicious, graceful lingering finish. A wine that combines accuracy, precision and emotion with a refinement worthy of a Chambolle!
