Wine Description
Domaine Pique-Basse 's Côtes du Rhône Villages Le Chasse-Cœur holds a special place inOlivier Tropet's range, and embodies the soul of Côtes du Rhône. The vines, located in Roaix, take root on the low alluvial terraces combining sand and silty clay, in the heart of the Rhône Valley. The blend is predominantly Grenache (80%), complemented by Syrah (10%) and Cinsault (10%), from vines aged 40 years for the Grenache and 25 to 30 years for the Syrah and Cinsault. Grown organically and biodynamically, the cuvée is hand-harvested, vinified with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel vats and aged in stainless steel or cement tanks, in keeping with the wine estate's aim of expressing terroir without artifice.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Domaine Pique-Basse 'sChasse-Coeur was conceived in the spirit of authentic, generous, structured and convivial village wines. It stands out in the Côtes du Rhône range for its density and freshness, while offering immediate drinkability. It perfectly reflects Olivier Tropet's idea of balance between power and elegance.
The nose opens with a highly expressive profile: jammy red fruits such as cherry and plum herald ripeness, punctuated by smoky, empyreumatic nuances. A touch of delicately seasoned spices adds aromatic relief to the whole.
The palate is deep and fleshy, carried by fine, structuring tannins. Red fruits dominate, enhanced by a hint of black pepper and a slightly smoky mineral nuance. Perfectly-adjusted acidity adds freshness and liveliness, making the wine both digestible and persistent. The clean, effective finish extends the smoky, spicy aromas, underlining the terroir's typicity without artifice.
