Wine Description

The Gewurztraminer Altenbourg of the Weinbach wine estate is located mid-slope below the Furstentum Grand Cru, at an altitude of between 225 and 250 m, on a gentle south-facing slope. Its marl-limestone geology is similar to that of Furstentum, with tertiary conglomerates. This terroir enables Gewurztraminer wines to reach excellent ripeness levels, giving them strength and expression, while still retaining excellent acidity for superb balance.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : The Faller family has long been producing some of the finest Gewurztraminer in Alsace , with the famous Zind Humbrecht wine estate. The wines are of great complexity and rare elegance. What's more, the Altenbourg cru lends it a fine saline minerality.

On the nose, the wine reveals subtle notes of white flowers, slightly smoky. We're delighted to discover that the varietal side of the grape gives way to more atypical fruity notes such as mirabelle plum, quince and even a hint of coconut.

The palate is equally fine and voluptuous, without exuberance, with notes of delicately spiced candied citrus peel. An airy wine of stunning balance , with a long mineral finish.
