Wine Description

The Riesling Grand Cru Furstentum from the Weinbach wine estate is an unusual Riesling. It's located on a limestone terroir in Kientzheim, so far nothing atypical. But above all, it faces due south and therefore benefits from intense sunshine all year round, giving the wine a more intense fruity expression. The work in the vineyard and during winemaking is the same for all wines, but what really makes the difference is the expression of the terroir. It brings more exotic notes to Riesling without totally excluding the mineral nature of the soil.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Riesling Grand Cru Furstentum is a slightly different representation of what you'll find in most cases in Alsace. This is a Riesling with an intense, more exotic aromatic expression. There's a lovely acidic structure, but it's also very greedy.

On the nose, the aromatic expression is intense and balanced, fresh and fine at the same time. Notes of bergamot, kumquat and lemon are easily detected. If you're used to tasting Riesling, it's easy to identify the granite terroir.

The palate is taut, with notes of dried fruit, almost a taste of rock, so omnipresent is the minerality. The wine stands out for its full body without any heaviness and, above all, a length on the palate worthy of the greatest French wines.
