Wine Description

The Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru of Domaine Trapet Père et Fils draws its identity from the southern end of the Gevrey Chambertin hillside. On this renowned part of the Côte de Nuits, the thin, stony soils are the model for Burgundy's finest Grands Crus. On a single 0.75-hectare parcel, Domaine Trapet grows Pinot Noir vines, the oldest of which date back to 1938, on a highly draining clay-limestone bedrock with outcrops of silica from the Combe Grisard scree. This austere terroir, combined with an altitude of around 250 meters and a privileged exposure, shapes a Grand Cru Latricières Chambertin renowned for its slender profile and density.

The wine estate has been using biodynamic vi ticulture for over thirty years, with meticulous attention to soil and vegetative balance. The grapes are harvested by hand, then undergo natural fermentation using indigenous yeasts, with a high proportion of whole bunches. Prolonged ageing follows, exclusively in new oak barrels. The result is a pure, vertical interpretation of this Côte de Nuits Grand Cru.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : The Latricières Chambertin Grand Cru from Domaine Trapet Père et Fils asserts a distinctive style among the Grands Crus of Gevrey Chambertin, with a rare ability to combine deep sap with a framework of great finesse. The straight, long base of the terroir allows the density of the Pinot Noir to stretch out with remarkable staying power. The most patient will be rewarded by its mineral persistence, which will find its full depth after a few years in the cellar...

The nose opens with an exuberant bouquet of red and black berries, mingled with fragrances of fine spices, humus and undergrowth, even hints of black truffle. The bouquet gains in volume as it progresses, with accents of fine cocoa, licorice, rose and fresh leather. A mineral framework typical of the Latricières climate reinforces the wine's aromatic depth.

The palate is sapid and full-bodied, with a freshness that is assertive from the outset, and vibrant acidity that underlines the intensity of the fruit. The supple flesh is supported by tannins whose velvety finesse lends real depth to the whole. The mineral sapidity of the finish prolongs the verticality typical of the climate, with a deliciously smoky persistence and a rare energy.
