Wine Description
Clos Venturi 'sAltare rouge is an exceptional cuvée, the result of a rigorous plot selection in the heart of Corsica. Situated at altitude, the vines are rooted in decomposed granite and sandstone soils in the Reginu valley, giving this wine a mineral structure and singular elegance. Clos Venturi, an independent spin-off from Domaine Vico, is pursuing its quest for identity through parcel-based winemaking that reveals the subtlety of the island's indigenous grape varieties. This exclusive cuvée, produced in very small quantities, gives pride of place to Sciaccarellu, Corsica's emblematic grape variety. Cultivated according to the principles ofbiodynamic agriculture, the grapes are harvested by hand and then vinified with great precision. Spontaneous fermentation, gentle extraction, ageing in tuns: each stage is designed to reveal the delicacy of the fruit and the character of the terroir.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : L'Altare rouge is a wine for ageing with character, in the tradition of the great island reds. It displays a rare elegance, supported by the finesse of the Sciaccarellu grape. Its tannic structure is supple yet persistent, and the whole possesses the freshness typical of high-altitude wines. A cuvée d'auteur that stands out for its directness and immediate drinkability, without denying its complexity and ageing potential.
On the nose, the wine opens with clean aromas of wild strawberry, morello cherry and laurel. A light peppery note underlines this delicate expression. The whole is pure, with a floral touch reminiscent of peony. A hint of fresh leather and smoke completes the palette, evoking a still young but promising material.
The palate seduces with its fluidity and freshness. The structure is guided by well-integrated acidity, giving rhythm to the tasting. The red fruits are crisp, carried by a slightly powdery texture. The spices of the nose are again present, with a taut, persistent finish, where the grain of tannin is refined without being overpowering. This characterful red reveals another facet of Corsican Sciaccarellu, while bearing the stamp of Clos Venturi.
