Wine Description
Clos Venturi 'sChiesa Nera blanc is a rare and precious cuvée, born in the hills of central Corsica, on the Vico wine estate. On a high-altitude terroir of granite and sandstone, facing south/southeast, almost 500 meters above sea level, the vines grow between sky and scrub, in a wildly preserved environment, and each bunch is worked by hand, respecting a committed biodynamic agriculture .
This exclusive clos offers a subtle interpretation of native white grape varieties. The 2022 vintage marks a new stage in the finesse of expression of this white wine, made from a rigorous blend of Biancu Gentile, Vermentinu and Genovese. The Biancu Gentile brings its unique floral aromas, the Vermentinu its fresh structure and the Genovese a herbaceous, almost saline touch. This is an elegant, complex wine with great tasting and ageing potential.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : For me, Chiesa Nera blanc is one of the most accomplished whites from Corsica today. Clos Venturi is renowned for its grape-friendly winemaking and controlled ageing, and this cuvée is no exception. The grape varieties, all native to the island, are vinified without oenological inputs, using natural fermentation. The wine is aged in concrete eggs for almost 20 months. The wine is neither fined nor filtered, to preserve its aromatic integrity and texture.
The nose reveals refined aromas of white flowers, preserved lemon and wild fennel. Notes of green almond and gunflint follow after aeration.
On the palate, the attack is supple and delicate, with a sensation of controlled volume. Ripe citrus fruit, a hint of zest, and a clear mineral framework. The texture, enhanced by long ageing, adds relief without weighing it down. The finish is persistent, combining floral, saline and slightly smoky notes that are very gastronomic.
