Domaine Thibault Liger-Belair's Bourgogne Les Grands Chaillots embodies the meeting of the Chambolle-Musigny and Nuits Saint Georges appellations. The wine estate extracts its grapes from a historic one-hectare parcel planted between 1978 and 1986 in Nuits-Saint-Georges, complemented by two hectares in Chambolle-Musigny, planted between 1954 and 1962. This dual presence in two prestigious communes gives the wine a solid foundation that exceeds Burgundy appellation standards. The clay-loam soil common to these two areas gives Pinot Noir a subtle balance between structure and finesse.
True to his philosophy,Thibault Liger-Belair works on this cuvée blend with the same exacting standards as his most renowned crus. The vines are cultivated biodynamically, harvested by hand and rigorously sorted both in the vineyard and in the cellar. Winemaking lasts three weeks, with the proportion of whole bunches adjusted according to the vintage, to preserve the personality of the grape variety. Discreet, controlled ageing aims to support the wine without overpowering it.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Les Grands Chaillots from the Liger-Belair wine estate is a serious cuvée, easily surpassing its regional appellation. Its length and elegance are reminiscent of a wine for laying down, yet accessible today. A juicy Pinot Noir, structured by an elegant mineral freshness, in the tradition of Chambolle-Musigny and the emblematic wines of Nuits Saint Georges.
The nose presents open aromas of fresh black fruit, with blackcurrant, blackberry and plum leading the way. A slight touch of undergrowth adds depth, while a licorice note and a hint of precious wood subtly indicate controlled ageing and promising evolution. The whole is precise, pure, without excess.
On the palate, the attack is supple, carried by frank, juicy fruit. The structure is balanced, held together by fine tannins and a refreshing mineral tension on the mid-palate. The Pinot Noir gains in depth without losing its finesse, revealing a subtle, persistent structure. The finish is elegant, slightly spicy, and lingers with delight.
