One of the finest references in the Alsace Grand Cru appellation,Albert Mann's Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Furstentum embodies the refinement and depth of a legendary terroir. Perched on the heights of Kientzheim, this sloping hillside benefits from a south to south-east exposure and limestone soils that store heat and water, releasing them to the old Gewurztraminer vines, which deliver concentrated, pure juice. Here, Furstentum reveals a character that is both sunny and precise, giving rise to wines that age well, with a rare intensity. As with all Albert Mann wines, this one is cultivated biodynamically, with respect for the soil, exclusively hand harvesting and natural, low-intervention winemaking. The result in the glass is an Alsace Grand Cru moelleux with great ageing potential, where the identity of the terroir is revealed in all its complexity.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin :Albert Mann 's Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Furstentum perfectly illustrates the balance the wine estate seeks between richness and precision in all its terroirs. Its beautiful acidity marks the wine with its purity and length, and admirably tempers the sensation of sweetness. It's a wine of relief, at once charming and structured, showing how Albert Mann's wines combine precision and sensitivity. In the glass, we find a Grand Cru of the future, whose great ageing potential will enable it to age for a good fifteen years without losing its brilliance.
On the nose, the wine seduces with its immediate intensity, typical of Gewurztraminer. Aromas of mango and lychee are enriched by floral accents reminiscent of rosewater and lily. The bouquet gains in complexity as the wine airs out, delivering beautiful notes of candied quince and oriental spices. A fine minerality with accents of chalk and white pepper balances the generosity of the fruit.
On the palate, the wine reveals a full, enveloping body, perfectly balanced by the drive of sumptuously chiselled acidity. The richness of ripe exotic fruit, candied fruit and oriental spices evolves into a subtle salinity that structures the wine's profile. The spicy notes continue through to a finish marked by stony minerality and a persistent acidic structure. A remarkable balance, which places this Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Furstentum among Alsace's cellar-worthy wines and great expressions of terroir!
