Wine Description

Gauby, the indisputable reference of the Roussillon

Entering the Gauby domain is a bit like leaving civilization. It feels like time stops. The vegetation has taken over its human rights and it is simply beautiful. The Gauby estate enjoys an exceptional environment since it has more than 85 ha of land, 45 ha of which are fully protected from other crops. Respect for the land is a priority for the Gauby family for several generations. Their work in organic and biodynamic farming gives wines rarely reached depths in the Roussillon. The field has changed a lot since the son took over Lionel Gauby which attaches great importance to making fresh, fine and drinkable wines.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Respect for the terroir and polyculture are the main words of the Gauby family, which has never ceased to evolve to grow their wines. The Gauby domain still imposes one of the most prestigious estates in all the Roussillon, in my opinion.

On the nose, it is thought that wine will reveal a great power and a very animal side. This is not the case, it is rather a subtle, elegant wine of great aromatic finesse. Notes of black fruits (myrtillas, blackcurrants) mix with a slightly spicy touch (white pepper). A hint of smoked tea adds some hardiness to the wine but in balance.

In the mouth, the attack is soft, the tannins are fine and silky. The fruit is very pleasant, greedy. A feeling of slightly mentholic freshness develops during retro-olfaction. It is really impressive as this wine is digested and fine for this type of terroir. Another great wine perfectly executed by the Gauby family.
