Wine Description
This Bourgogne Côte d'Or Chardonnay from Morey-Coffinet is a magnificent introduction to Thibault Morey 's precise style, which brilliantly expresses the family roots and identity of the Chassagne-Montrachet terroirs. Made from three small parcels of 96 ares in total, located on the plain where the soils are deeper and richer in clay, this wine nevertheless retains a fine mineral imprint. The Chardonnay vines, on average around 40 years old, are cultivated using certified organic methods, with measured mechanical tillage of the plots to respect the integrity of the soil as much as possible. Hand harvesting ensures that only the healthiest grapes are kept, which are then vinified using the indigenous yeasts present on the berries, before ageing in barrels to give the wine structure without masking its natural freshness.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Domaine Morey Coffinet 's Bourgogne Côte d'Or Chardonnay is a particularly clear entry into the world of our whites. This precise, gourmet cuvée successfully combines ripe fruit, the mineral tension of the terroir and real tasting pleasure. It perfectly reflects the spirit of the Côte de Beaune regional appellations, with wines that are sincere, straightforward and pleasant, while retaining a real terroir identity. A true pleasure wine!
On the nose, a generous bouquet combines notes of yellow apple, pear skin, fresh hazelnut and orange zest. The freshness of grapefruit, lime and mint adds lively zesty and herbaceous touches. Aeration reveals greedier nuances of tangerine marmalade and apricot. Floral notes of hawthorn and honeysuckle intertwine with a pastry-like touch of fresh butter, bringing complexity to the whole.
On the palate, this Bourgogne Côte d'Or Chardonnay from Morey-Coffinet seduces with its full, fleshy attack, which unfolds a velvety texture almost reminiscent of Chassagne-Montrachet. Bright flavors of yellow plum, pear and ripe lemon mingle with herbaceous hints of peppery arugula and verbena. The crystalline salinity of the finish prolongs the tasting with beautiful balance.
