Wine Description
Domaine Robert-Denogent’s Pouilly-Fuissé La Croix is crafted from a blend of vineyards around Fuissé, in the heart of southern Burgundy. The Chardonnay vines, most of which are in their forties, have their roots in soils composed of a mix of silt, schist, and volcanic outcrops, giving the wine a distinctive character that balances richness and minerality. Cultivated using organic farming methods with a biodynamic approach, Domaine Robert Denogent prioritizes natural winemaking, limiting interventions to preserve the purest expression of the grape variety and terroir. After a hand harvest and fermentation with native yeasts, the wine is aged for nearly 30 months in various bottle sizes of wooden containers, as well as in stainless steel tanks and concrete eggs, to refine the texture and integrate the minerality that characterizes this cuvée.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Domaine Robert Denogent’s Pouilly-Fuissé La Croix combines richness and freshness, with a mineral character shaped by its schist terroir. This wine stands out within the wine estate’s lineup as one of the most approachable even in its youth, without losing the depth expected of a Pouilly-Fuissé. A full-bodied, rich, and subtly complex wine with a decidedly gastronomic profile.
On the nose, the wine opens with aromas of white flowers, ripe pear, and candied citrus. As it breathes, nuances of roasted hazelnut and fresh butter emerge, reflecting the well-integrated barrel ageing, while a mineral backbone of flint reveals the terroir’s signature character.
On the palate, the attack is lively and supports a full-bodied, silky texture. Flavors of ripe yellow fruit and candied citrus blend harmoniously with notes of delicate spices and honey, offering remarkable depth and length on the finish. The wine’s mineral structure carries a taut and persistent finish, marked by the delicately smoky freshness of flint and very subtle oak. A sumptuous Pouilly-Fuissé!
