Wine Description

Châteauneuf du Pape Clos du Mont Olivet is exceptional in many ways. It's made from a wide variety of parcels of land located in Montalivet, La Crau and many other places. Its strength and complexity lie precisely in the differences between the soils that make up the blend. Clay, sand, sandstone and galets roulés - all these terroirs give a different expression and complement each other perfectly in the Châteauneuf du Pape blend. The blend is made up of 70% Grenache, 12% Syrah and 12% Mourvèdre, plus 6 other grape varieties that together account for around 6% of the cuvée.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: The Clos du Mont Olivet wine estate is one of the very best in Châteauneuf du Pape. It produces wonderful wines that are worked and harvested with the utmost care. Fermentation takes place in concrete vats and ageing in foudre, which is relatively atypical for this sector. The result is wines of great energy and superb drinkability even in their youth.

On the nose, the wine develops notes of blackcurrant, cedar and slight hints of dried tobacco. It's an approach to the Châteauneuf du Pape appellation that's all finesse and gourmandise.

The palate is a real caress, with incredibly supple tannins. Notes of violet, cherry and blackberry are superb. A great wine that reveals itself well in its youth and can be enjoyed quickly.
